MAKE VALENTINE’S DAY SPECIAL FOR YOUR GREYHOUND

Greyhound with Teddy Bear "Kiss Me"

Valentine’s Day shouldn’t be limited to just a romantic candlelight dinner – it’s also the perfect time to show your Greyhound how much you adore him. This Valentine's Day, engage in their favorite activities with them. No one knows what your pup loves to do better than you, but if you need some ideas, here are 10 fun ways to celebrate your heart dog, along with some little treats for you too.

1.  SNUGGLE AND CUDDLE

This is my dog’s NUMERO UNO favorite thing. It costs nothing and is worth its weight in gold. And in case you weren’t already aware of this, most dogs aren’t interested in PERSONAL SPACE. Rarely do they think, “enough with all this snuggling and cuddling stuff.” They just can’t get enough of it. This should tell you that, hands down, this is the number one way to show him just how much you adore him. So, snuggle and cuddle away. It’s his universal love language and needs absolutely no translation.

2.  GIVE HIM A MASSAGE

Give your pup a massage: We all need to relax sometimes, and dogs benefit from massages just like us! They do so much exercise throughout the day, a massage is a heavenly treat for them. Just gently knead their muscles, with long strokes. Stretch out those long legs!

3.  EXTRA PLAYTIME

Do the thing that your pups love most. Spend time with them. Play flirt pole, make them chase you, tug of war, treasure hunt, etc. Make the day extra special by providing loads of engagement with your houndie.

4.  TREATS

Make or order Valentine's day special doggie treats. We all know that our fur kids are die-hard fans of treats. Why not order special pup-cakes, dog-friendly cake or treats from the pet bakery shop? Or even better, you can make them at home. Here are some ideas from a previous blog: https://bit.ly/EasyDogTreatRecipes

5.  WATCH A MOVIE TOGETHER

Pop in a DVD or Netflix works just fine too, perfect  with all those doggie cuddles. A big bowl of popcorn (only a tiny bit for your pup, however), and a movie – we are going to watch “SECRET LIFE OF PETS III”

6.  NEW TOY

Valentine’s Day is the perfect day to splurge on a gift for your beloved dog! Take your pup to the pet store and let him choose his own toy. A double gift - excursion plus toy! What’s more fun than watching your pup decide between different toys? It makes them so happy and in turn, will make you happy.

7.  DOGGIE DAYCARE

Maybe your hound would like to visit your local doggie daycare for some fun with his friends? It would make a greyt change-of-pace if your dog is up for the social scene.  Don’t consider it if it would be too stressful for him.

8.  EXCURSION

Want to get away for a bit? Your dog would follow you anywhere, so bundle up and visit a local beach to romp in the sand, a hiking trail, or even just a new route versus your regular walk. Maybe you could meet some greyt friends at the dog park for a “Hound Up”!

9.  NEW DUDS

If your Greyhound is not too fond of dressing up, a new collar would be perfect! No one can have just one : - ). Otherwise, a new coat or sweater will make you both feel like a million bucks.

10. DONATE TO A SHELTER

Your dog already has the best gift—you. Other pups are still waiting for the day their forever family gets to celebrate Valentine’s Day with them, so give a little back to those who need it most. If you can, buy some treats and toys and donate it to your nearby shelter or adoption group.

Use your imagination and plan for a fun date with your dog, whether it’s just the two of you or your entire family. Giving your dog plenty of treats and kisses this Valentine’s Day will make it fun-filled and memorable.  Take loads of photos and videos. You’ll be glad you did. We wish you lots of love and plenty of snuggles.
